Ultra Dry Adventurer Changing Robe Review

Ultra Dry Adventurer changing robe review - Dryrobe alternative

Ultra Dry are a small family-run company based on the South coast of England. If you’ve ever purchased one of their excellent dry bags, you’ll know they are a brand that you can trust to deliver on quality. Their tow float dry bag was the best quality out of all the tow floats we tested.

The Ultra Dry Adventurer Changing Robe

Now, Ultra Dry have ventured into the world of changing robes, and I was lucky enough to be gifted one prior to launch. I was excited to take it with me on my next swim to try it out and was not disappointed.

The quality of this changing robe is top-notch, just like their other products. They have managed to produce a waterproof changing robe to rival the top brands on the market. And it’s cheaper than a Dryrobe too, priced at £150. So if you want reliably good quality but don’t want a Dryrobe like everyone else, the Ultra Dry Adventurer Changing Robe is a magnificent Dryrobe alternative.

Features

The Ultra Dry Adventurer Changing Robe has all the features you would expect from a premium robe. Here, we’ll dive into them in detail.

Waterproof Outer Material

Ultra Dry really know how to make fantastic waterproof products and their new changing robe does a great job of keeping out the rain and sea spray whilst remaining breathable. The outer shell gives you great protection from the wind too, along with the super cosy hood, which is important when you’re cold and wet after a swim.

Sherpa Fleece Lining

I was impressed with how warm and cosy the Ultra Dry robe was with its super-soft Sherpa fleece lining doing a great job of keeping out the cold. Even more impressive was how good it was at wicking away the moisture from the skin. The lining felt dry to the touch immediately after using it to dry off from my swim.

As you would expect, the Sherpa fleece draws the water away into the pile of the fabric, so you can remain wearing it after drying. But this robe is particularly good, making it wearable on the walk or drive home, even multiple times a day, without feeling wet or cold.

Of course, even though the lining feels dry, the moisture has been absorbed into the material, so it will need to be dried out properly. Thankfully, the Sherpa fleece lining is super quick-drying and only takes a few hours laid out flat before it’s dry as a bone again, so daily use will be no problem.

Pockets

The external zipped pockets are fleece-lined and keep your hands nice and toasty. The robe also features an internal zipped waterproof phone pocket with an earphone hole. This will comfortably fit any smartphone and is great for keeping your valuables safe, such as your keys and wallet. And the other large internal pocket has ample room for storing wet clothes after your swim.

Zips

Many changing robes fall short when it comes to zips. Some use cheap zippers that feel like they could break at any moment. Some are impractical or poorly designed. Fortunately, Ultra Dry have not made the same mistakes, opting for good quality, large zips and pulls that are easy to use with cold fingers.

The double zip closure means you can zip from the top and the bottom, great when you need more room to move around when changing. And by flipping the pull cord you can operate the top zip from inside the robe for easy access while changing.

Design Details

The embroidered details, such as on the adjustable cuffs and internal pocket, look really nice and the branding is really smart. They have colour-coded each of the three available designs, which I think look really effective. Overall, it’s a stylish robe to wear with an understated, modern look, and I find myself reaching for the Ultra Dry first above some of the others I have.

Fit

As a 6’1″ medium build man, the large fits perfectly with ample room to change inside without being too baggy, making it versatile enough to wear as a winter coat too. The length is always key with changing robes, and this one comes down below the knee, just above mid-calf, so it offers really good coverage.

Special Launch Offer

If you’re one of the first to order, you’ll get a bunch of extra free goodies, like one of Ultra Dry’s superb dry bags, a matching changing mat and one of their fantastic waterproof phone cases!
